How to call a phone from your browser in four steps

  1. 1

    Type the number

Pick the country and type the number in the dial box above, or open the dialer after you sign in. The number goes in with its country code.

  2. 2

    Create an account

An email and a password, or your Google account. No card and no phone number of your own; the number you typed comes with you.

  3. 3

    Add credit

Top up from $10 — packs of $10, $25, $50, $100. Credit never expires and is spent per minute.

  4. 4

    Allow the microphone and call

Press Call and allow the microphone when the browser asks — once per browser. The per-minute rate is on screen before the call connects.

Which browsers can make the call?

Current versions of these five browsers place the call over WebRTC, the real-time voice technology built into the browser itself. No plug-in, no extension, no download.

  • Chrome
  • Edge
  • Firefox
  • Brave
  • Safari

On a phone, use the phone's browser — or the TwinPhone app for iPhone (iOS 17.0 or later) if you want to stay reachable on a rented number. One account and one balance work everywhere.

Browser call vs app vs Wi-Fi Calling vs Google Voice and Skype

Each option solves a different problem. What each one is good at, and where it stops — including where TwinPhone is the wrong tool:

What you can't do from a browser call

  • Call emergency numbers

911, 112, 999 and other emergency numbers cannot be dialled. TwinPhone is not a phone line — use a mobile or a landline in an emergency.

  • Send text messages

A rented US or Canadian number receives texts — reliably only from US and Canadian senders — but there is no way to reply or to send an SMS with TwinPhone.

  • Be called back on the shared number

Without a number of your own, people see a shared TwinPhone number, and calling it back does not reach you. To be reachable, rent a US or Canadian number from $3.19/month; incoming calls cost $0.02/min from your balance.

  • Call phones without credit

Every call to a landline or a mobile is paid from your balance. Calls cost nothing only app-to-app, such as WhatsApp to WhatsApp.

Calling from a browser — FAQ

Short answers about calling real phone numbers from Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Brave or Safari.

Signing up is free and needs no card, but calls to phone numbers are not: you add credit from $10 and pay per minute — $0.02 to the US and Canada, with every other rate shown before the call connects. Calls are free only app-to-app, such as WhatsApp to WhatsApp.

No. Calls are paid from a prepaid balance, and a balance needs an account. Registration takes an email and a password or a Google sign-in — no card and no phone number of your own.

Open this page in Chrome, type the number with its country code and press Call, then sign up and add credit. When Chrome asks for the microphone, choose Allow. The call runs in the tab, and the person answers on an ordinary phone.

No. The dialer is the web page itself: the browser's built-in WebRTC carries the voice, so there is nothing to install in Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Brave or Safari.

Yes. Any computer with a current browser and a microphone can call mobiles and landlines in 145+ countries. A headset stops the other person hearing their own echo.

Yes. Landlines and mobiles both work. The rate for the number you type is shown before the call connects, and the landline and mobile rates of a country can differ.

Yes, to 145+ countries. Calls to the US and Canada cost $0.02 a minute; for every other country the dialer shows the exact rate for the number you typed before it connects. Billing is per minute, rounded up, with a one-minute minimum.

A shared TwinPhone number, unless you rent a US or Canadian number (from $3.19/month) and call from it. You can also show your own mobile number after verifying it, for $1 a month.

You need a working microphone; the one built into a laptop or a phone is enough, and any headset the device recognises works. The browser asks for permission once. If it blocked the microphone, allow it in the site settings and reload the page.

Yes. Safari on an iPhone and Chrome on Android place calls the same way. There is also the TwinPhone app for iPhone (iOS 17.0 or later) and Android; one account and one balance work everywhere.

TwinPhone makes calls in current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Brave, and Safari, on Windows, macOS, Linux, iPhone and Android, using the browser's built-in WebRTC — no extension. Each browser asks once for permission to use the microphone; the call does not start until you allow it.

Usually the microphone is blocked — TwinPhone needs the browser's permission to use it. Click the lock or site-settings icon next to the address, set Microphone to Allow and reload the page. Also check that your operating system lets the browser use the microphone and that the right input device is selected.

Yes, with a rented number — calls to a TwinPhone US, Canadian or Puerto Rico number ring in the browser or the apps, at $0.02 a minute from your balance. The balance has to cover the first minute for the call to ring, and numbers cost from $3.19 a month.

Yes — TwinPhone works in Chrome on a Chromebook and in Chrome, Firefox or Brave on Linux, because the calling runs inside the browser and nothing is installed. You need a microphone, an internet connection and credit from $10; calls to the US and Canada cost $0.02 a minute.

Yes — TwinPhone calls from a phone's browser work over mobile data as well as Wi-Fi, because the call travels as internet traffic, not as a carrier voice call. Your data plan carries it, the per-minute rate is charged from your TwinPhone balance, and the person you call answers on an ordinary phone.
