Can I get a US phone number if I don't live in the US?
Short answer
Yes. TwinPhone rents US and Canadian numbers to people outside North America: sign up with an email, with no US address, ID or SIM. The number rings in your browser or the iPhone app wherever you are and receives texts from US and Canadian senders, but it cannot send SMS. Prices start at $3.19 a month.
What do I need?
An email address or a Google account, and a way to pay: a card through Stripe on the website, or the App Store in the iPhone app. US and Canadian numbers are issued instantly without documents, so there is no proof of a US address and no US phone number to link. You can rent up to 3 numbers per account and search them by area code.
Which verification codes arrive?
Texts from US and Canadian senders, including the short codes companies use. In the 90 days to 27 September 2026, 41 TwinPhone numbers received 55 WhatsApp codes and 10 received 25 Google codes. Telegram refuses virtual numbers, and so do many banks and payment apps — see Telegram and virtual numbers.
What does it cost to use?
The rental starts at $3.19 a month and renews at the same price until you cancel. Answering a call costs $0.02 a minute from your calling balance, with a one-minute minimum; there is no per-message charge for texts. If the number does not work as described, you can ask for credit or a pro-rata refund within 7 days.
More questions
Do I need a US address or a Social Security number?
No. US and Canadian numbers are issued without documents.
Can I pay with a card from outside the US?
Yes. Payments are processed by Stripe; prices are in US dollars and your bank converts them.
Can I call people from the number?
Yes. Pick it in the dialer's "Call from" menu and the person sees it. Calls are billed at the destination's rate: $0.02 a minute to the US and Canada.
How long can I keep it?
For as long as the monthly rental is paid. A failed card renewal releases the number, so keep your card up to date.
Can I receive bank or Telegram codes on the US number?
Usually not — Telegram refuses VoIP numbers, and banks and most payment services refuse virtual numbers, so their codes do not reach a TwinPhone number. WhatsApp and Google codes do arrive: in the 90 days to 27 September 2026, 41 numbers received 55 WhatsApp codes and 10 received 25 Google codes.
Can people outside the US call my US number?
Yes — anyone can call a TwinPhone US number, from the US or from abroad; callers pay their own carrier's price for calling the US, and you pay $0.02 a minute from your balance when you answer. Texts are different: messages from phones outside the US and Canada often never arrive.
Do I have to wait for an identity check before the number works?
No — TwinPhone issues US numbers without document checks, so the number works as soon as the first month is paid, from $3.19. You pick an area code, and calls and texts to the number arrive in the browser and the TwinPhone apps right away.
Can I have more than one US number?
Yes — TwinPhone allows up to 3 numbers per account, from the US, Canada or Puerto Rico, each a separate monthly rental from $3.19 that renews at the same price. A reminder email arrives 2–3 days before each card renewal, and you can cancel any number in your account.
