How do I receive calls abroad without roaming charges?
Short answer
Give callers a US or Canadian TwinPhone number and answer it in your browser or the iPhone app over Wi-Fi or mobile data. TwinPhone adds no roaming fee: an incoming call costs $0.02 a minute from your balance, with a one-minute minimum, plus the number's rental from $3.19 a month. Your own SIM number stays with your carrier.
How do I set it up before I travel?
- Rent a US or Canadian number in TwinPhone (from $3.19/month).
- Give it to the family, clients or colleagues who need to reach you.
- Keep TwinPhone open in a browser tab, or stay signed in to the iPhone app, on Wi-Fi or mobile data.
- Keep at least one minute of balance: if the balance cannot cover a minute, the call does not ring and the caller hears busy.
Is there still a roaming charge anywhere?
TwinPhone charges none, but the data is your carrier's. On hotel or café Wi-Fi nothing extra applies; mobile data abroad is billed by your carrier under its roaming terms, and a local SIM or eSIM with data avoids that. Calls to your own SIM number still go to your SIM and roam as before — only calls to the TwinPhone number avoid it.
What does the caller pay?
Whatever their own carrier charges to call a US or Canadian number. For someone in the US or Canada that is a domestic call; from another country it is an international call on their plan.
