Where Google Voice Wins
Let's be fair: for US and Canada domestic calls, Google Voice is unbeatable — it's free. If you live in the US and primarily call US numbers, Google Voice does the job at zero cost.
Google Voice also integrates seamlessly with Gmail, Google Calendar, and the rest of the Google ecosystem. If your life runs on Google products, the integration is genuinely useful.
Where TwinPhone Fits Better
For calling from outside the US, TwinPhone fits better on these points:
Sign-up — TwinPhone needs no US number: you sign up with an email. Google Voice requires a US phone number to sign up, and personal Google Voice accounts are available only in the US (Google Voice Help, checked 11 Oct 2026).
Rates — TwinPhone charges $0.02/min to the US and Canada and shows the exact rate for any other number before the call connects. Compare it with Google Voice's published rate for the same country and line type.
Security — TwinPhone encrypts call signalling with TLS and call audio with SRTP in transit.
Virtual numbers — TwinPhone rents US and Canadian numbers to people outside North America. It does not sell numbers in other countries. Google Voice only provides US numbers.
Billing — TwinPhone bills per minute, rounded up, with the exact rate shown before every call and no connection fee.
Can You Use Both?
Absolutely. Many users keep Google Voice for free US calls and use TwinPhone for international calls. The two services complement each other well.
Google Voice handles your free US number and domestic calls. TwinPhone handles calls abroad from a browser, with the per-minute rate shown before each call, and rents US or Canadian numbers to people outside the US.
